The Louvre In Action

The Louvre is the biggest and most famous museum in France, and possibly in Europe. With big popularity comes a responsibility to be available to the public in as many ways as possible. The Louvre uses social media, more specifically, they use Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook to spread information about their museum. Each of their social medias have between 1.5-2 million followers.

Their posts mainly consist of updates on their exhibits and pieces of art. They often give a brief explanation of a piece of art, like a statue, a portrait, or a an exhibit followed by either its closing or opening dates. They notify their followers of other events happening at the museum or places that are connected to the museum. In their bio of the account they put hashtags that are related to the Louvre to make them easier to find and they link the museum's website. Along with the hashtags and link, their instagram is linked to their phone number, email and map directions to arrive there straight from the app. To the right is a screenshot of the museum's Twitter bio. It is very organized and gives sufficient information for the user.

They post on their accounts a few times a week. Its enough to keep their followers interested but not too much that their followers are annoyed by it. They often interact with their followers more on Twitter than Instagram, pero sometimes they will answer followers´questions in their comments.

Another aspect of their instagram is feed (left) is the aesthetic. Although they probably don't try that hard at making it look good because the art speaks for itself, they do a good job of getting professional and aesthetically pleasing pictures taking to maintain a professional and artistic perspective for their followers.

The Louvre is an organization that uses social media to boost the culture of what they try to represent through the art they display. Being such a popular museum, it would seem impractical to not be a part of social media as that is how many people get their information today. This way, The Louvre can keep their visitors informed, interested and updated.
